Paolo Turra is Cavit’s head winemaker for sparkling wines – his entire life has been dedicated to ‘spumante’. His father was one of the founders of the “Equipe 5” team during the sixties, who visited the Champagne region and then initiated sparkling wine production using the same method in Trentino. Paolo followed his father’s footsteps and has been responsible all of Cavit’s sparkling wine portfolio since 1994.
Trento DOC was the first Classic Method sparkling wine DOC to be established anywhere in the world after Champagne, and the first in Italy, with rigorous regulations regarding grape variety and minimum ageing. The Altemasi range has, at its peak, the Altemasi Riserva Graal, which has been awarded the illustrious Gambero Rosso’s ‘Tre Bicchieri’ 13 times since 1998.
