The gently sloping vineyards have a southern exposure and clay-limestone soils. The grapes are harvested by hand into 20kg cases, and bunches are carefully selected once they reach the cellar. Temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts for 14 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, and 9 months ageing in third year French oak barrels.
Pronounced aromas of bramble fruit and violet with balsamic notes. More blackberry and raspberry characters on the palate, balanced by ripe plum and a hint of dark chocolate and tobacco. A rich, ripe red with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and good length.
Great with lamb or beef dishes, perhaps Portuguese lamb stew (Chanfana)
