Teliani Wine People Shavkapito (Qvevri) 6X75 - Boutinot

Teliani Wine People Shavkapito (Qvevri) 6X75 2019

Teliani Valley

Teliani's new project involves collaborations with artisan winemakers that they like all across Georgia. Each wine is essentially a one off from a single Qvevri, which may or may not be produced again in future under this label. This wine was made by Evgenia Grigorieva, a successful corporate lawyer, who left her career in Berlin and returned to Georgia to continue the family tradition of winemaking. Evgenia built her own cellar and is producing wines in Qvevri from indigenous Georgian grape varieties.

Meet the producer

There has been a winery in the village since the 1800s and to ensure that this long history of winemaking continued, Teliani...

100% Shavkapito, an indigenous Georgian grape variety, hand harvested in central Gori Region, Central Kartli. The wine is fermented on skins for 7-10 days, then a secondary malolactic fermentation takes place for 15 days. Once the alcoholic fermentation is finished skins are separated from the wine and it continues to mature in Qvevri for 6-8 additional months.

Tasting notes

Red berries and sour cherry flavours on the nose.

Food match

This wine pairs really well with lamb and spicy meat dishes as well as hard cheeses.
