Scacciadiavoli Bianco, Montefalco DOC 2022

ISC001

Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli

South East of Tuscany is the land locked region of Umbria. A rugged and wild place, with a long history of wine farming. The whites are often in the fresh, crisp spectrum and for the reds they have a variety which is simply unlike any other, Sagrantino. This indigenous variety is a creator of inky black, powerful, intensely tannic wines. In a sense it might appear too much for the modern world, the antithesis of the crowd pleaser, this is a wine that is for those who want an outlier and something that stands out from the masses.

Production

Half the blend is made up of Trebbiano Spoletino, which is different to Trebbiano d'abruzzo (pay attention!) This is a late ripening, low-yielding variety which has been really useful in the recent warm vintages. The balance of the blend is 30% Grechetto and 20% Chardonnay. Nine months in neutral oak gives harmony and a slight nutty hint.

Tasting notes

Moreish and nutty with a bright streak of acidity.

Food match

Seafood and fish dishes.
