Production
Fruit from the village terraces just below Daniel’s best Domgarten vineyard, situated above the steep Riesling vineyards (Rottgen), providing gentle breezes which extend hang time for Pinot, really concentrating the ripeness. Hand harvested, 30% whole bunch fruit from 25 year old mid slope, southeast facing vines. Naturally fermented in used barriques (with a small proportion new) before being aged for 16 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting notes
Raspberry, cooked strawberry and rose petals. Silky and elegant texture with an espelette and black pepper laden palate. The finish is seemingly endless and leaves you in a bath of ripe red fruits and decadence.
Food match
It’s dry. But try this with a very simple Eton mess… Ripe, in season, strawberries on meringue and some cream. A crack of black pepper if you’re feeling adventurous.
