Production

Within the prestigious satellite appellation of Montagne-Saint-Émilion, Château Cardinal’s 10ha of vines average 30 years of age. Here Merlot, with Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, grows on argilo-calcaire soil. Grapes are harvested at full maturity, sorted, and pressed at the winery. During vinification the temperature is carefully monitored to achieve the desired aromas and structure in the wines, before maturation in vats and casks for over a year. The wine is then allowed further maturation in bottle before release.

Tasting notes

Deep, inky ruby colour, with ripe dark fruit on the nose, whilst the palate offers a more powerful impression. The tannins are bold and firm with the fruit giving way to toasted oak and a lovely lift of acidity on the finish.

Food match

Grilled beef steak or hard cheeses.
