Production

Grown on sand and clay in vineyards between 17 and 32 years. The grapes are hand harvest and undergo one night of skin contact to extract the perfect amount of flavour. The wine then undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural characteristics of the grapes. After this the wine spends approximately 7 months of aging in a combination of steel and concrete tanks. Maria Sole bottles “Noble Kara” without fining or filtration, and with a minimum of sulphur.

Tasting notes

The light, sandy, silica rich, reflective soils down here near Chiusi produce an ‘easier’, more immediate style of Sangiovese than those from 90 minutes up the road in Chianti-shire. The temptation to produce a delicious, ripe, juicy, sappy Rose/ Pale red will have been obvious … to do it in such a bold, unique and fabulously drinkable style just underlines what an exciting estate this is. Note the ’25 will shorten its name slightly to just ‘Kara’ and the label will change slightly and become even more attractive and stylish.

Food match

There’s a lovely neck of lamb/ feta/ fig/ cucumber/ toasted shards of pitta salad recipe in the Peter Gordon cookbook ‘Savour’. That’s a cracking good combination for starters!
