Legendary Australian bushranger and outlaw, Ned Kelly, formed his gang in the Victorian bush in order to rescue his Mother who had been arrested for a crime she didn't commit. Between 1878-1880, the gang perpetrated a series of robberies, capturing the imagination of the public. Though officially outlaws, the gang, and especially Ned Kelly, were seen by some as heroes in the fight of workers against wealthy landowners. During this time, the gang began constructing suits of armour from the metal parts of farmers'; ploughs. This is the armour Ned Kelly was wearing in his final stand-off with police in Glenrowan, and which is memorialised on the label of the Last Stand wines.
