Meet the Producer

Clos du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District. The winery was first recognized for its Cabernet Sauvignon at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates. Third-generation family-owned today, Clos du Val farms two estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District and Yountville appellations and continues to craft wines of balance and complexity, showcasing the fruit from the outstanding terroir on which their estate lies.

A Note on Sustainability

Beginning in 2014, the winery affirmed its commitment to the importance of its own estate fruit by dramatically reducing production and concentrating almost entirely upon estate-grown wines.

Clos Du Val participates in the Napa Green scheme, a comprehensive sustainability certification program for vineyards and wineries in the Napa Valley. Its soil-to-bottle stewardship includes protecting and restoring the Napa River watershed; saving energy and water; reducing waste and carbon footprint; and being conscientious employers and good neighbours. Independent, third-party certification of farms and winemaking facilities makes Napa Green one of the most rigorous sustainability accreditations the wine industry offers.

In 2022 they started replanting trees and other vegetation on their estate with more drought-tolerant species. This project will help us continue to reduce our water usage and make sure the land is taken care of long term. They have also recently adopted lightweight glass bottles for some of their wines, reducing carbon emissions.
