Bodega de Sarría lies on a large and beautiful estate in Valdizarbe, in the hills above Puente la Reina, near Pamplona. Situated amongst 1,000 hectares of forest, the 210 ha of vineyard consists mainly of south-facing slopes at 400-500m altitude, planted primarily with Tempranillo, Graciano (the most extensive plantings of the variety in Spain), Garnacha, Cabernet, Merlot, Mazuelo and Chardonnay.
Founded in 1953, Sarria was one of the pioneers of quality winemaking in Navarra. Some vineyard areas date back to then, and even their youngest vines are now over 20 years old. The range excels in all areas - including the complex and spicy Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
Bodega de Sarría have achieved the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection accreditation. SWfCP certification, promoted by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), evaluates the commitment of wineries in the fight against climate change and their commitment to sustainability, acting in four specific areas - the reduction of greenhouse gases. greenhouse, energy efficiency, reduction of waste generation, correct and responsible management of water and energy efficiency. As well as the environmental focus, SQfCP also has social, economic and governance dimension which the winery must adhere to.
In addition to the requirements to meet this certification, for several years, Bodega de Sarría have maintained a vegetal cover in the majority of the vineyards in order to improve biodiversity and take advantage of the useful fauna that preys on different pests. Likewise, they avoid strong soil erosion in vineyards with large slopes when heavy rains occur. Environmentally friendly fertilization are used to replace "traditional fertilizers" by a total foliar fertilization program. This allow them to reduce their carbon footprint considerably and avoid possible contamination of aquifers and nitrogen fertilizers are never used in order to protect aquifers.
