The Bolgheri DOC (established in 1994) runs parallel to the Tuscan coast, bordering on the Ligurian Sea. The proximity to the coast brings light into the vineyards, and the moderate temperatures ensure a slow and regular ripening period for the grapes - maintaining fresh acidity and aromas.
The winery has 13.5 hectares of vineyard in the Bolgheri zone. 6 hectares are situated in the northern area of the DOC called Le Sondraie – just a couple of kilometres from the coast and due west of Siena. Vines here are around 10-15yrs old and planted in the sand-silt soils typical of the region (vineyard acquired in 2016).
In addition they have recently acquired a further 7.5ha of vineyard (and a further 3.5ha to be developed) further south. Vines here were planted from 2000 – and they are also investing in a new winery building.
International varieties dominate the region and this estate is no exception – with Merlot (4ha) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2ha) at Le Sondraie, and predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah cultivated at their newer site.
