What's been said about our wines...


We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!

That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…

Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us this last month!

Madai Origen Mencia 2021*: “Lovely – an unoaked young Mencia with notes of florals, red cherry, currant and wild raspberry. Fresh and fruity, with crunchy acidity. Uncomplicated and good value.” 90pts. Decanter (December 2022) *some 2020 stock still to sell through


Pazo de Monterrey Mencia 2019: “Milk chocolate, redcurrant and red cherry, with minty notes and black pepper. Stewed fruit, spices and liquorice on the palate, and good freshness.” 91pts. Decanter (December 2022)


Feudo Maccari Saia Nero d’Avola 2019: “Feudo Maccari’s oak-aged Nero d’Avola is sourced from older vines of around 30-40 years old, from higher plots of the estate’s vineyards near Avola in southeast Sicily. After a maceration of around 20 days, the wine is matured in French oak barriques for 10-14 months. The result is a rich, structured and textured Nero d’Avola with cherry and dried fruits allied to fragrant potpourri, wood and chestnuts. It has good intensity and finishes with bright, pure black cherry and raspberry coulis character.” 91pts. Decanter (September 2022)


Valenciso Rioja Reserva 2014: “Classic Rioja Tempranillo character: ripe black fruits, with toasty French oak notes. Suavely textured in the mouth, well grained, with cherry and more savoury notes to finish.” 91pts. Decanter (Spain Supplement 2022) 


Barolo Bussia Dardi le Rose 2018, Poderi Colla: ” …is a solid effort for the year. The 2018 is laced with dark fruit, smoke, menthol, tobacco, liquorice and a host of balsamic-infused nuances that are such a signature. Naturally, the 2018 is a bit light, but its balance is impeccable.” 91 pts. Antonio Galloni, Vinous (October 2022)


Barbaresco Roncaglie 2019, Poderi Colla: “Barbaresco. Palish ruby. Embryonic, tight nose with savoury minerally hints and just a shimmer of red fruit. A core of sweet raspberry fruit framed by firm, ripe and polished tannins. Spectacular tannic structure that is totally captivating and with youthful, focused red fruit.” 18+ pts Walter Speller, (July 2022)


Marchesi di Grésy Barbaresco Martinenga 2019*: ” …is bright and punchy. Sweet cherry, dried flowers, orange peel, mint and cinnamon are nicely lifted throughout. There’s terrific purity to the red-toned Nebbiolo fruit. Give this mid-weight Barbaresco a few years to soften the somewhat nervy angular contours that are present today.” 90+ pts. Altemasi Millesimato Brut 2018: “Brut-style with a mere 7g/l dosage, refreshing acidity and an earthy note support lemon, pink grapefruit and apple flavours across the palate and velvet-textured mousse leads to a savoury finish. Excellent concentration and medium body suggest that this wine would work well with firm fish from the local rivers and lakes, or with a seafood quiche with fresh flat leaf parsley.” The Drinks Business ‘Global Sparkling Masters 2022′ Judges’ comments, awarded a GOLD (October 2022)

Altemasi Trento Brut NV was awarded a SILVER at the Global Sparkling Masters 2022 too.


Emiliana Coyam 2019:  “This thoughtful and seamless blend of 37% Syrah, 33% Carmenere, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carignan, 4% Malbec, 4% Garnacha, 3% Tempranillo, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Mourvèdre offers complexity way in excess of its price point, my hunch is that’s due, in part, to this winery’s ecologically benevolent vineyard practice. Rich, deep, spicy, brooding, fulsome, fruity, layered, sleek and firm. There’s a classiness to the way in which the (excellent quality) fruit hasn’t been over-emphasised, resulting in a compelling savoury balanced style which works extremely successfully. There’s a marked smokiness to the aroma and while this is without doubt on the beefy side, it is also an age-worthy bottle to consider guarding thanks in equal measure to its structure and vitality.
