Review Round-up (June 24)
What's been said about our wines...
We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!
That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…
Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us this last month!
Cadus Finca Las Torcazas Single Vineyard Malbec 2021; Perfumed, polished style, sleek with oak spice complexity. Bright cherry intensity, with nice fruit concentration. Fine-grained tannins with balanced freshness. Silky and stylish. This wine will have many fans. 94Pts Decanter Magazine (May ’24)
Cadus Appellation Tupungato Malbec, Valle de Uco 2021; Subtly muted yet alluring, this wine boasts ripe red and dark fruits mingled with herbs and spices. Smooth, and refreshing, with a juicy entrance and supple mid-palate. Delightfully approachable. 91Pts Decanter Magazine (May ’24)
Nieto Don Nicanor Malbec, Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco 2022; Plum and cherry charm with ripe, dark fruit and earthy spice notes. Juicy, harmonious, with supple freshness. A delightful, albeit straightforward, expression of youthful, fruity allure. 91Pts Decanter Magazine (May ’24)
Bressia Monteagrelo Malbec, Valle de Uco 2021; A pleasingly dark and sweetly spiced cacao essence. Exhibiting elegance with ripe dark fruits, exotic spices, and earthy tones, it’s a more traditional yet well-executed example. 90Pts Decanter Magazine (May ’24)
The 2021 Malbec Monteagrelo is sources from Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley in Mendoza. Aged for 12 months in French oak foudres, this purple-red wine presents aromas of violets, plum and herbs, with a subtle oak layer. Dry, rich and plush, the velvety tannins and juicy flow culminate in a flavourful finish. This is a Mendoza Malbec at its best. 91 PtsJoaquin Hidalgo – Vinous
Marchesi di Grésy Nebbiolo Martinenga, Langhe DOC 2022; Focused on freshness and elegance (note the 13.5% alcohol), it displays fragrant notes of strawberry, cinnamon, Parma violets and cherry jam complemented by a delicious, super-precise mouthfeel with silky tannins and a lively finish. Extraction seems to be very delicate: it’s not too complex, but instead aims to be sinuous and refined. Mostly from a 6.5ha vineyard facing southwest, with a small portion from an experimental vineyard with numerous different clones. 90Pts Decanter Magazine (May ’24)
Emiliana Animalia, DO Valle de Casablanca [Orange Wine] [Organic] 2023; A very subtle, elegant orange wine that won’t challenge you. Elegant lychees, peaches, golden berries and a touch of jasmine. Round and composed on the palate, with fresh fruit and very soft tannins. Clean and easy to appreciate. 100% sauvignon blanc. From organically grown grapes. 91 Pts James Suckling.com
Bressia Profundo, Lujan de Cuyo 2019; The 2019 Profundio is a blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 10% Syrah sourced from Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. Aged for 12 month in French oak foudres, this garnet-red wine with a purplish sheen present a complex fruit-forward bouquet. It features aromas of plums and raspberries, accompanied by notes of pepper, orange peel, bay leaf and balsamic against a faintly oak backdrop. Dry, rich and plush, the wine’s energy is unleashed by calibrated acidity and mild tannins. A crystal-clear red, the ripening point was precisely timed here. 94 Pts Joaquin Hidalgo – Vinous
Nicosia Contrada San Nicolò, Etna Rosso DOC 2019; Prominent rose water and Turkish Delight aromas mingle with varnish, chestnut, and oolong tea notes. Assertive yet ripe tannins frame an orange zest and tart cranberry palate with lively acidity and supple tannins. Lacking a bit of length but showcases Etna’s sweet-savoury tension and a creamy finish. 91Pts Decanter Magazine (June ’24)
Château Mayne-Vieil, AOP Fronsac 2018; A 100% Merlot. Inviting nose, fruit and juicy with a touch of spice. Great energy and vibrancy. Youthful yet very drinkable, a touch of herbaceousness at the end but well wrapped by its expressive juiciness. 90Pts Lin Liu MW, Decanter Magazine (June ’24)
