Review Round-up (January '22) - Boutinot

What's been said about our wines...

We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!

That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…

Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us this last month!

Tabalí Pai Pinot Noir 2018: “Tabalí has always produced svelte Pinot Noir and the new Pai wine is next level. Fine pedigree masal selections from Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin (the first in Chile) were planted on a steep slope of fractured limestone in cool, coastal Limarí. The result is mouthwatering: fine-tuned chalky tannins with notes of gun flint, earth, tart red cherries and flowers. Brava!  97pts.” Decanter magazine, Amanda Barnes: My top 10 South American wines of 2021 (January 2022)

Queirón El Arca Single Vineyard Rioja 2018: “A classic Rioja with a surplus of complexity, marked by the traditional ageing method. This has lots of red fruit, and is very expressive. Drink 2021-2026. 92pts.” Decanter magazine, SPAIN supplement (January 2022)

Villa Raiano Taurasi 2016: ” …is remarkably pretty, with violet flowers and lavender giving way to wild herbs, plums, blood orange and flowery undergrowth. It soothes with its silky textures contrasted by nervous acidity and tart red fruits that add inner tension under an air of rosy florals. There’s an unbelievable amount of energy here for such a young Taurasi, as this tapers off only lightly structured, leaving black currants and a twang of sour citrus to linger incredibly long. The 2016 will only require minimal cellaring to show its best. 93pts.” Eric Guido, Vinous (January 2022)

Villa Raiano Ventidue Fiano di Avellino 2018: ” …pulls you close with its bouquet of dried flowers, incense, a dusting of ginger, baked apples and pears. It’s elegant and rich, with waves of white stone fruit that wash across the palate with ease, leaving chalky minerals, wild herbs and inner florals. This is persistent and lightly structured through the finale, where nuances of peach skin and smoke linger. The Ventidue is sourced from a single hectare in the town of Lapio, with its calcareous-clay and yellow sandstone soils at 450 metres of elevation. The wine refines for twelve months on the lees in stainless steel. It’s a beauty today and has a bright future ahead of it. 93pts.” Eric Guido, Vinous (January 2022)

Villa Raiano Fiano di Avellino 2020: “Pretty white flowers, sliced pear, hints of camphor and smoke pull you close as the 2020 Fiano de Avellino blossoms in the glass. This is a pure and energetic effort, with a reverberation of green citrus and mineral tension that creates a crunchy feel to the ripe orchard fruits within. It tapers off clean, resonating on refreshing notes of lime zest and kiwi. This succulent yet high-energy Fiano is a pleasure to taste. 90 pts.” Eric Guido, Vinous (January 2022)

Wonder Horse Palomino 2020: “The old-vine plantings produce a tangy and crisp white with fresh green apple flavours, lipsmacking acidity and a saline twist on the finish. Cries out for shellfish.” Decanter Magazine, Weekday Wines (January 2022)

False Bay Pinotage 2020: “Appealing blackberry, violet, sour cherry and savoury herbs. Lovely definition, firm yet elegant tannins. 93pts.” Decanter magazine, Pinotage Panel Tasting (January 2022)

Bischöfliche Kaseler Riesling Kabinett Trocken 2020*: ” …exhibits a clear, bright, fresh and pure, spicy-mineral as well as herbal/floral nose that is more stony than fruity and represents a classic Riesling Kabinett from the Ruwer. Filigreed, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a delicate but also remarkably tight, intense and characterful, mineral-driven Kabinett with perfect roundness and Ruwer finesse. 91pts.” Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate (December 2021) *we still have some 2019 in UK stock before moving to this vintage
