Review Round-up (December ’21)
What's been said about our wines...
We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!
That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…
Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us this last month!
Château Fabre Gasparets Viognier Chimère IGP Pays d’Oc 2018: “A whiff of nutty oak pervades over citrus and floral aromas. Evident oak provides gentle vanilla weight, beautiful structural creaminess, butterscotch and butteriness. The fruit is silky and round with hints of white chocolate, oranges and cooked peaches. The acidity is perfectly balanced, with heavy phenolics and tannins on the finish. Beautifully put together, but maybe needs a little more time to soften the oak. Drinking window 2021-2031. 90 pts.” Elizabeth Gabay MW, Decanter (19th November ’21)
Finca Arantei Albariño 2020: “Luscious peach aromas, so rich it smells caramel licked. Smoke and stone and peach and pith, the flavours reverberating through the wine, taut as violin strings, salt-bitter-sweet-sharp cutting chromatic crystals into the peach, into the stone, through the smoke. Tingling lime-pinched acidity, sending electric currents of energy from start to finish. Vivid and complex. 17 pts.” Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com (19th November ’21)
Château Maucoil, Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018: “Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of dried cherry, succulent herbs and lavender, plus a hint of smokiness in the background. Smooth and broad on entry, offering bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors that tighten up and become sweeter through the back half. The herb and spice notes echo on the persistent finish, which is framed by supple, even tannins.” 90 pts. Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com (October ’21)
Champagne Gremillet, Brut Vintage 2015: “Exotic nose of oyster shells, dry fruit, grapefruit and cranberries with hints of sage. Savoury on the palate with a chalky finish.” 91 pts. Simon Field MW, Decanter (6th December ’21)
Cline Late Harvest Mourvèdre 2017: “This is my choice for chocolate desserts. A combination of raisined grapes and new French oak produces rich dark chocolate and mint aromas, which are joined on the palate by black cherry and blackberry fruit, helping to balance the noticeable tannins.” Peter Ranscombe, Decanter (13th December ’21)
Yangarra Estate Shiraz, McLaren Vale [Organic & Biodynamic] 2018: “The brilliant biodynamic McLaren Vale producer that is Yangarra Estate was the source of a Master-winning Syrah this year. Using very old vines and sensitive cellar techniques, the style of wine is ripe, but not heavy, with a smoothness and brightness one might not normally associate with this hot part of Australia. Texture aside, this is a delicious Syrah, with flavours of dark cherry, pepper and plums, vanilla and cedar, even a touch of dried mint and cranberry.” The Drinks Business, Global Syrah Masters 2021
