What's been said about our wines...

We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!

That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…

Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us this last month!

From Kerin O’Keefe in Wine Enthusiast Magazine (November 2020):

Cantina di Soliera Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC ‘Il Trovador’ (Metodo Ancestrale) NV: “Refermented in the bottle, this savoury sparkler has aromas of grapefruit, rose and red berry. The lightly sparkling palate doles out juicy red cherry, citrus, yeasty whiffs of bread dough and white pepper alongside tangy acidity. It has a crisp, mouthwatering close.” 91 pts

Altemasi Trentodoc Millesimato 2016*: “Aromas of white spring flower, white stone fruit and bread crust form the nose on this bright, sparkling Chardonnay. The elegant palate offers ripe yellow apple, chamomile and a dollop of baking spice set against a refined perlage.” 91pts

*This wine and vintage also took a Gold medal at ‘The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships 2020’.

San Felice Il Grigio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2016* have achieved #26 on the Wine Enthusiast ‘Top 100 Cellar Selections 2020’ list with a stunning 95 points:

Classic varietal aromas recalling underbrush, blue flower, wild berry and crushed aromatic herb form the nose. Savoury and smooth, the elegantly structured palate features juicy black cherry, cassis, dark culinary spice and tobacco alongside taut refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2022–2036.” Kerin O’Keefe

*we’re on 2015 bottle stock currently, but have some 2016 magnums if you’re quick!

‘La Fleur Solitaire’, Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2019 was rated as one of Decanter’s the top Côtes du Rhône wines under £20. “Relaxed orchard fruit, peach and apricot, very full-bodied and languorous on the palate, spreading across the tongue. Just enough acidity to be enjoyably drinkable. Surprisingly long. Drink young.” 89pts

Domaine Chante Cigale, Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2019 “Equal parts five varieties: Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul and Roussanne. The result is a lively array of citrus notes on the nose, with hints of melon and pineapple in the mix as well. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, with a rich, silky feel and a languorous, slinky finish that adds hints of fennel seed. There’s a bit of barrel used, but no overtly oaky aromas or flavours intrude.” 92pts

Domaine Chante Cigale ‘Extrait’ Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2019*A blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc from the calcium-rich lieux-dits of Cabrières and Palestor, the 2019 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait was made and aged in a combination of demi-muids and concrete. Scents of honeycomb accent ripe pear, pineapple and tangerine on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and generous, almost velvety in feel, culminating in a long, vibrant and citrusy finish. It’s a terrific example of the appellation’s white wines.” 94pts

*Currently 2017/2018 in stock – look out for 2019 early next year

Cuvée Papale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2018 “Shows a dark, slightly beefy edge to its mix of currant, fig and lack liquorice notes, which rumble through, adding tobacco, sweet earth and a light bay echo along the way. Solid, muscular style that should age well. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2033.” 93pts

Grande Réserve Papale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2018 “Youthfully compact, but the core of dark currant and fig fruit is well-built, while extra liquorice root, singed tobacco and roasted Applewood notes hang in the background. Flashes of savoury and sanguine thread through the finish, adding range. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2033.” 93pts

Emiliana Gê, Colchagua Valley [Organic & Biodynamic] 2015 The 2017 vintage came in number 71 in James Suckling’s ‘Top 100 Wines of 2020’, he said “This shows superb finesse and balance with wonderful, harmonious fruit and tannin tones that give the wine purity and focus. Dried spices, blackberries, walnuts and tile. Deep, contained structure with pure, fine tannins. The finish is incredible and goes on for minutes. A blend of 56% Syrah, 31% Carmenere, and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. From biodynamically grown grapes. One for the cellar. Better after 2022, but already fantastic.”. 98 points.
