Review Round-up (Autumn ’24)
We truly believe our wines are fantastic, but you already knew that – we wouldn’t sell them if we didn’t!
That said, it is always nice when someone else recognises the quality in our portfolio, even better when they write a lovely review in the press to tell everyone about it…
Here’s a round-up of what they’ve been saying about us recently!
Montresor Satinato Riserva, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2013: “Smoke, toast and coffee beans. Cherry and cherry jam. Fine-grained, grippy tannins. Incense and roasted chestnuts; compact, deep, a hot and intense palate. Ripe cordial fruits and sugar plums, round and ripe, fully mature flavours. Drink 2024-2030.” Highly Recommended – 92 pts, Decanter magazine (October 2024)
Domaine Boutinot Argiles Blanches Blanc 2022: “Boutinot’s Cairanne reds have a big fanbase but this white blen – 70% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussanne and 10% Clairette – is just as impressive. Fermented and briefly aged in oak, it’s satisfyingly rich and rounded, with stone fruit and floral notes, but with a fresh mineral stream that gradually reveals itself.” – The Wine Merchant Magazine (October 2024)
Emiliana Gê, DO Valle de Colchagua [Organic & Biodynamic] 2019: “This is an exquisite blend of grapes grown in a stoney vineyard in Colchagua; 54% Syrah, 31% Carmenère and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. A rich violet colour, with complex aromas of fresh red fruits, balsamic tones, spices, cedar, and cloves. It’s savoury in the mouth, with a velvety texture and polished tannins. The flavours are peppery and persistent with a pleasant fruity finish. Gê is the flagship wine from Emiliana, Chile’s leading biodynamic winery.” 95 Pts Expert’s Choice: South America’s premium red blends, Alejandro Iglesias in Decanter Magazine (October 2024)
Domaine des Tourelles Vieilles Vignes Cinsault 2021: “The 2020 is a little more evolved than the 2021, the red fruit now entwined with more mature flavours – hints of fig, dried cherry and leather. The flavours are more complex, the tannins still firm enough to suggest the wine should be drunk with food and yet it is also enticingly aromatic. As it warmed in the glass, there was even a subtle floral note. Both vintages are deliciously fresh with that red-cherry bite at the end and a nicely dry texture, telling the story of their origins in the harsh conditions of the Bekaa Valley.” Wine of the Week on JancisRobinson.com by Julia Harding MW
Keith Tulloch Semillon, Hunter Valley 2022: A fragrant, herbal aroma with nuances of nettles and chopped fresh garden herbs. The palate is delicate and fresh, light-bodied and crisp, with moderate length and good balance. The entry-level Keith Tulloch Semillon is released young. It’s soft but dry and finishes cleanly. 90Pts Decanter Magazine (November 2024)
Aquilaia Ciliegiolo, Maremma Toscana DOC 2022: Attractive, fruity nose of ripe cherries, dried blood oranges, red liquorice and hints of cocoa. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and focused, with velvety tannins and a compact, lingering finish. Drink now or hold. 91pts JamesSuckling.com (August 2024)
Fiano, Paso Robles AVA 2022: Enticing aromas of vibrant lemons, ripe stone fruit and delicate elderflower are followed on the palate by spicy notes of candied ginger and tropical lychee. Well rounded and balanced, with palate-cleansing acidity but also weight and body. Perfect as an aperitif or a versatile companion to food, this is a wine that showcases the plentiful charm of the southern Italian Fiano variety. 92Pts Decanter Magazine (November 2024)
Novas Gran Reserva Carmenère [Organic] 2022: Vibrant and vital, this inky blend (with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon) always over-delivers on price and flavour, with crunchy blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit, gentle mocha creaminess and a fresh bayleaf coolness. 91pts Decanter Magazine (November 2024)
Gómez Cruzado Pancrudo Selección Terroir, DOCa Rioja 2022: Ripe dark cherries and plum aromas with elegant sweet spice. Juicy fruit flavours burst on the palate, complemented by nutty vanilla flavours that persist towards the finish. Well balanced, with vibrant acidity and structure. Drink 2024-2028. 90pts Decanter Magazine (November 2024)
Domaine Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2023: Tasted blind. Marzipan and almond notes. The palate has density, with a note of warming alcohol, and then slightly drops off towards the finish. Drink 2026 – 2032. 15.5 pts Alistair Cooper MW for Jancisrobinson.com (November 2024)
Domaine Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Extrait Blanc 2023: Tasted blind. Attractive nose with some notes of straw and hazelnut. The palate has freshness to lift the core which is a little shy in expressing itself at the moment. The finish is ripe and long with a richness coming through. Drink 2026 – 2032. 16 pts Alistair Cooper MW for Jancisrobinson.com (November 2024)
Château Maucoil Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Blanc 2023: Tasted blind. There is freshness on the linear palate, with good acidity. Refreshing, for the vintage, with a moderate concentration of fruit. Drink 2027 – 2037. 15.5pts Alistair Cooper MW for Jancisrobinson.com (November 2024)
Cadus Appellation Tupungato Malbec, Valle de Uco 2021: Deep, rich nose yet floral and herbal, with tar, graphite and slate to the fresh blackberries and blueberries. Full-bodied and quite structured on the palate, with ample, powdery tannins and a long, broad finish. An intense, concentrated malbec that shows lots of potential. Big but nothing obese here. 96 Pts – Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor,Top 100 Wines of Argentina 2024, JamesSuckling.com
