The 21st annual Manchester Food and Drink Festival will take place from 27th September to 8th October 2018.  For the 12th year running, Boutinot will be there, this time, supporting the Front of House Team of the Year award.  This award aims to recognise the most outstanding front of house team in Manchester.  Ed Cross (left) and Scott White (right) tell us a little more about our involvement with the MFDF:

Tell us a bit about your roles here at Boutinot…

Ed Cross: Well I’m Ed of the North – I don’t really like job titles, however officially it’s Head of On-Trade North/Sales Director On-Trade North – looking after our On-Trade team in the North West and beyond.

Scott White: I started at Boutinot in 2002 and got a “big money transfer” to the On-Trade team alongside Ed at the start of 2011.  I love eating and drinking, so it was the perfect move for me!

When did you first get involved with MFDF?

EC: Back in 2006, when attending the gala dinner. Before that nobody from Boutinot went, which I thought was crazy as we’re a Manchester based company.  I live and work in Manchester and therefore I want to support my city.

SW: I first attended the MFDF Awards Gala Dinner in 2011.  Since then I’ve got to know the event organisers, Siobhan Hanley and George Jackson, pretty well and our relationship and involvement with MFDF has continued to flourish.

How would you describe the festival to someone who has never been?

EC: It’s a celebration of the food & drink scene in Greater Manchester with lots of great events, pop-ups and a big party at the end!

SW: It’s the most renowned festival dedicated to the best of our region’s restaurants, pubs and bars.

Tell us about Boutinot’s involvement in the Gala awards?

SW: We’ve been progressively involved since 2006 supporting customer events. We have sponsored the wines at the Gala dinner for the last three years and one of the awards, too – this year we’ll be presenting the Front of House winner. We’re always some of the last to leave the after-show party – most of the team are still sharing their love of wine i.e. drinking and Ed finds it difficult to leave the dance floor!

A selection of Sommelier Wine Award Gold winning wines are also to be served. Tell us about these…

SW: The SWA have been a bit of a game changer for Boutinot.  Obviously, we are known and have a loyalty in the North West, however winning Wine Merchant of the Year for six successive years has certainly contributed to our success.

It makes sense to be involved as it’s a wine competition specifically for the on-trade. It is totally relevant to what we do as it is judged by many of the UK’s top sommeliers and restaurateurs.

Having won Great Value Wine Merchant of the Year 2018 we decided to showcase four of our By the Glass Trophy & Gold medal winners:

  • Vila Nova Loureiro, Vinho Verde, Portugal – We don’t do a Boutinot White Wine of the Year, but if we did this would be it!
  • MOKOblack Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand – A real crowd pleaser that would sit happily on most wine lists.
  • Turno de Noche Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina – Meaning the ‘Night Shift’ we couldn’t resist pouring this at the MFDF’s big night!
  • Ontañón Crianza, Rioja, Spain – It’s a wine list classic.
