Around the world, wine makers are no strangers to the trials and tribulations that mother nature brings and 2023 was no exception. Our annual Harvest Report is here, packed full of first hand accounts from our wine making teams, video summaries detailing the harvests in our Homes in  France, England, New Zealand and South Africa, alongside a rundown of the 2023 harvest across the globe.

The Headlines…

Northern Hemisphere

For the Northern Hemisphere 2023 saw France return to the top of the charts as number one wine producing country by volume, knocking Italy to number two and Spain to number 3. Greece battled with wildfires and struggled to make even just 30% of their usual volume. WineGB is celebrating what it believes will be Great Britain’s largest-ever grape harvest as freshly collected data reveals 2023 is set to produce a record-breaking estimated 20 million bottles – twice the size of Britain’s previous record year in 2018. Across the pond, California is looking to have one of the best vintages after ‘a long, cool and wet growing season’, which are words that perhaps one wouldn’t associate with California over the years, with the past few vintages plagued by wildfires, drought, and extreme summer temperatures.

Southern Hemisphere

For our partners in the Southern Hemisphere, challenges in the form of wildfires in South America whilst simultaneously amidst economic turmoil. There had been deadly floods on the North Island of New Zealand, yet much of the South Island was spared, with stunning wines and a plentiful harvest. Just across the Tasman Sea, Australia had one of the smallest harvests to date. Over in South Africa, 2023 was an extremely short and intense harvest, yet quality doesn’t seem to have been hindered.
