Fabulous Italian Fizz (part 2) - Durello - Boutinot

For a fresh and zesty, authentic, Italian sparkler that offers great value – then look no further than Durello Spumante ….

Durello grapes

This is produced from the Durello grape, which is local to the Veneto region, and grown on the cool, volcanic, hillside vineyards of Monti Lessini. These small, late-maturing grapes have naturally high acidity – ideal for the production of sparkling wines.

Traditionally Durello Spumante has been bottle fermented, with up to 6 years on lees. However the variety is also well-suited to the production of fresh, zesty tank method wines such as this.

Our Durello Spumante Brut Palladiano is bottled after 2-3 months on lees, to produce a fizz with gently floral and citrus aromas, crisp green apple, and lightly honeyed characters. Refreshing and with lovely depth of flavour. We think it looks great too!

Jane Parkinson has reviewed it as: “A lively and energetic fizz with a pretty elderflower, pear and honeysuckle nose. Sour with lemons and limes on the finish, it’s a simple but fun and fruity wine.” Restaurant Magazine (May 2018)

– and it’s recently been awarded the ‘Best-Value Sparkling Wine‘ Trophy at the 2018 Wine Merchant ‘Top 100’ competition, where “… the fizz impressed the judges with itsfruity aromatics‘”.
