On-Trade Wine List Christmas 2020 | Boutinot Wines

How we are working to support the on-trade this festive period - with flexible delivery and great wines

Boutinot Christmas List 2020

With varying restrictions across the country that could change with a few days notice, the only prediction we can make for Christmas 2020 is this will be a festive period like no other.

It has been a historically difficult year for our colleagues in hospitality and we want to ensure we can support you as much as possible through December and into 2021.

Given the threat of a total industry shutdown hanging over us like the sword of Damocles, you can rest assured our delivery options will be as flexible as possible, orders placed before 11am will be delivered within 1-2 working days depending on geographical location. Customers located within the M25 can order up until 3pm for delivery the next working day – ensuring we can get stock to you as soon as you need it.

However, if you need assistance in the event of sudden tier/lockdown changes then please get in touch. We want to be sure you aren’t left overstocked on wine that you would struggle to move.

Wine being poured on a table set for Christmas

Our customers have shown amazing initiative in the face of Covid, thriving in the most difficult of times and coming up with brilliant, creative solutions.

For those looking to spruce up their Christmas wine lists we’ve collated a series below that we think would be an excellent addition to any venue.

Again, we want to support our people as much as possible so rest assured you can order almost all of these wines by the bottle, rather than by the case, so you can experiment with different balances to see what fits for your customers.

With a mixture of different styles and serving sizes there’s something for every environment this Christmas, whether that’s in-venue, for collection or take-away.

If you’d like to find out more about any of the wines below then click the product image for a full breakdown and feel free to get in touch with your account manager for any further info.

Made only in exceptional years, the 2014 Henners Vintage is a spectacular wine. A wonderful example of the growing English Sparkling category it also looks beautiful, benefitting from a top quality rebrand that took place this year.

Aged on lees for four years it has deliciously biscuity, creamy, honey aromas with beautifully poised acidity and a hint of salinity.

The perfect wine to pop open on a festive Zoom call.

Fontessa Prosecco Rosé

In May of this year one of the Prosecco governing bodies (the DOC) approved the production of Prosecco Rosé. Arriving just in time for Christmas 2020 this new addition to the Fontessa range had high expectations and, thankfully, it’s blown them out the water.

Fernando de Castilla

If an established, expert Sherry provider is what you’re after than you could do no better than Fernando de Castilla.

They were established in 1972 by Fernando Andrada-Vanderwilde, whose family had provided grapes and wine for Sherry production for over two hundred years. In 1999 Jan Pettersen, a Norwegian winemaker who has been creating world class sherries for over 35 years, took over the winery and switched the focus entirely to high-end, complex sherries.

The Fernando de Castilla ‘Antique’ range below reflects this quality of production, with a bumper crop of gold and silver medals to back it up. There’s truly something for every preference here although, particularly with the smaller serving sizes, the real magic comes from trying them together and comparing how they taste.

Dessert Wines

Palazzina Moscato d’Asti
Vendemmia Tardiva (37.5cl) 2015

Ginestet Classique Sauternes
(50cl) 2016

Tis the season to sit back after a delicious meal and indulge in some sweet, sticky wines. The two we’ve chosen to highlight this year are stellar partners for any Christmas cheeseboard and will tie your night together with a big festive bow.

Be warned, they are both wonderfully moreish…

Palazzina Moscato d’Asti Vendemmia Tardiva (37.5cl) 2015

We can’t recommend this enough. A beautifully balanced dessert wine, with nose of intense lemon curd, marmalade, and orange peel with fragrant honeysuckle notes.

The palate has lots of ripe apricot and acacia honey characters with honeyed sweetness, well-balanced by a fresh citrus zest bite on the lingering finish.

Ginestet Classique Sauternes (50cl) 2016

The classic dessert wine – elegant, fresh and delicious. A nose rich in honey and with sweet floral tones along with hints of citrus marmalade.

The palate is rich and smooth with similar sweet floral and honeyed apricot flavours but with a faintly citrus note in the finish.

Serve either as an aperitif or with dessert, this wine is ideal for beginning or finishing an evening out.

Domaine Michel Girard Sancerre ‘Silex’
(Magnum) 2018

Nothing says you’re ready for Christmas like plonking a magnum of wine in the middle of the table.

The two wines we’ve chosen pair together better than two turtle doves, our flagship wine from Cairanne ‘La Côte Sauvage’ and a Sancerre that will satisfy even the grumpiest Scrooge.

Boutinot ‘La Côte Sauvage’, Cairanne AOC 2018

Intense morello cherry fruit and a touch of spice on the nose, ripe berry, liquorice and a hint of cinnamon spice on the palate – pretty much Christmas in a glass.

It’s hard for us to pick a wine that best represents Boutinot, but if we had to choose a hall of fame this would be a first ballot choice.

Domaine Michel Girard Sancerre ‘Silex’ 2018

With a nose of gunsmoke, orange oil and earthy, stoney notes this is a wine we guarantee will knock your socks off. The full palate is lively and expressive with pronounced minerality and a long, long finish.

Prà Morandina Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2018

Prà Morandina Valpolicella Superiore
Ripasso 2018

Nothing says Christmas quite like trying to impress family and friends with an amazing wine so to finish we have two premium choices for those wow moments.

Domaine de la Motte Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy

Made entirely with Chardonnay grapes from Beauroy, a Premier Cru site, this is a typically stylish and rich wine from Domaine de la Motte.

Passed down from father to son for over 70 years they are renowned for their meticulous approach to winemaking and their wines have come to be seen as benchmarks for the Chablis region.

This wine in particular is special. A rich, rounded style with aromas of buttered toast yet with classic mineral tones, and fresh lemon on the finish.

Prà Morandina Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso

Ripasso loosely translates to ‘re-pass’ or ‘to go over again’ which is rather apt given this is a wine you’ll want to keep coming back to.

From world renowned winemaker, Graziano Prà, comes this delicious Ripasso. A third generation producer who’s been creating wines for over 40 years, you would be hard pressed to find someone with a CV as impressive as Graziano’s.

His La Morandina vineyard was acquired in 2001 and has been delivering award winning wines for over fifteen years.

On the palate you get flavours of ripe black fruits, prune, fig and an orange peel tang balanced by more savoury characters of cloves and cedar. Spot on for a night in by the fire.
