Chile Special Report 2026
Tim Atkin Chile 2026 Special Report
The 2026 Chile Special Report by Tim Atkin MW and Amanda Barnes MW has just been published and it’s been a great year for Boutinot’s Chilean wines and producers. Chile is the world’s eighth biggest wine producer and the fourth largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Now in its 10th year, the report is based on a three-week trip to the country in December 2025, during which Amanda and Tim covered all of Chile’s major wine regions. The report features 1,232 wines from 175 bodegas. Despite facing considerable challenges, Chile is producing the greatest and most diverse wines in its history, making the most of its unique geographical position. The 2024 and 2025 vintages, like 2022, 2021 and 2018 before it, have produced some world-class whites and reds.
A huge congratulations to Viñedos Orgánicos Emiliana, Viña Tabalí, and Vinos Copa on these accolades. The team here at Boutinot know how fantastic these wines are, vintage after vintage, but it’s always exciting to read praise from such well respected wine writers.
Highlights below.
Vinos Copa
Vinos CoPa Semillón, Valle de Itata 2024
95 Points and one of the Semillóns of the year
From 100-year-old Semillón vines, this shows flinty notes, lifted herbals and a slightly green edge, alongside gentle oak toast from ageing in used oak barrels. The palate is taut and vibrant, driven by bright acidity and a clear green, structural core to the fruit. A touch of creaminess adds breadth without softening the tension.
CoPa País, Valle de Itata 2022
93 Points
From 150-year-old vines, red cherry notes lead followed by an earthy undertone of rose petals and forest floor. A graphite-like texture to the tannins drives the savoury, structured palate, supported by excellent freshness and length.
Tatié
Tatié Rosé Extra Brut NV Limarí Valley
95 Points and one of the Sparkling Wines of the Year.
One of a pair of impressive bubblies from Tatié, a project that combines Chilean and Champenois expertise, this pink fizz from the coastal Limarí Valley combines Pinot Noir with 40% Chardonnay. With its appealing onion skin hue, it has layers of malt, wild strawberry and redcurrant, fine bubbles and deftly integrated 5.8 grams of dosage.
94 Points
The result of a successful joint-venture between Champagne Thiénot and Tabalí, this is a non-vintage cuvée of Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from the 2020 and 2021 harvests. Reflecting the limestone-rich soils of the coastal Talinay vineyard, this has lots of freshness, zip and minerality, racy citrus and red berry fruit and creamy mid-palate texture from 30 months of autolysis.
Emiliana
Emiliana Gê 2022 Colchagua Valley
95 Points
There’s an effortlessly approachable style to the 2022 vintage of Gê, with dark fruit, silky texture and appealing suppleness. Although less structured than its predecessor vintage, 2021, this is already showing charm and drinkability, with fine spice and a smooth, polished profile.
Emiliana 57 Rocas Carmenère 2023 Colchagua Valley
94 Points
From 30-year-old vines in the biodynamic Los Robles estate, this vibrant and spicy Carmenère has notable freshness and balance. Red fruit, pepper and fine herbal notes are supported by a mix of egg, foudre and oak ageing, giving texture and depth.
Emiliana Coyam 2023, Colchagua Valley
94 Points
The 2023 release of Emiliana’s emblematic Coyam blend has a savoury and herbal edge, showing dried herbs, graphite and a restrained fruit profile. Still youthful, but with clear ageing potential, this offers excellent value and structure.
Tabalí
Tabalí Barranco Viognier 2025 Limarí Valley
95 Points and the Viognier of the Year.
Barranco comes from one of the highest vineyards in Chile, located on volcanic soils at 1,600 metres in the Andes. Showing the freshness of the site, it has enticing flavours of quince and orange zest, a waft of honeysuckle, a touch of lemon butter and a zesty, palate-cleansing finish. Restrained by Viognier standards.
Tabalí Talinay Chardonnay 2024 Limarí Valley
95 Points
Windy, cold and extreme is how Felipe Müller describes the source of this Chardonnay, located 12 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. Chalky, flinty and ever so slightly salty, it has subtle wood, layers of beeswax, citrus and fennel and a tapering, lingering finish. Effortlessly complex and well balanced, this is a fine expression of a special site.
Tabalí Talinay Sauvignon Blanc 2025 Limarí Valley
94 Points
The Talinay Sauvignon Blanc comes from a north-facing slope, but it’s so windy there that the effect of longer sunshine hours is mitigated. Intensely chalky, racy and pure, it’s a white for people who love tension, zip and intensity in the glass, all lime, greengage and agave flavours supported by palate-cleansing acidity.
Tabalí Talinay Pinot Noir 2024 Limarí Valley
94 Points
The Talinay Pinot Noir is made with the 777 clone and two massal selections from Vosne- Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. Matured in older wood, it’s a tangy, racy expression of the so-called heartbreak grape, showing granular tannins, redcurrant and cranberry flavours and a chalky, stony finish.
Tabalí Micas Carmenère 2024 Peumo
93 Points
Micas is sourced from a single vineyard in Peumo, generally considered one of the best regions for Carmenère in Chile, and is a step up from the Pedregoso bottling in terms of concentration. Violet and green salad aromas lead you into a palate of blackberry and fresh herbs complemented by a touch of oak and supple tannins.
