Varietal, Valley & Organic Viticulture: Boutinot Brings Emiliana’s New ‘Natura’ Range To UK
“Since its foundation, Emiliana has been a pioneer in this country and has made tremendous contributions to sustainability and the production of wine made with organic grapes… Its commitment and passion have made it an example to follow in Chile and around the world.”

For over two decades, Emiliana has cultivated sustainable, organic and biodynamic vineyards in the main wine valleys of Chile in the belief that this gives more balance to healthier grapes, and in turn produces better quality wines.
Today, Emiliana is the largest producer of organic wines not only in South America, but also in the world with 900 hectares under vine in the Casablanca, Maipo, Colchagua and Cachapoal Valleys (all are IMO certified organic).
Boutinot has been working with Emiliana since 2002 and has now launched the new Natura range in the UK. “Natura is Emiliana really showing how, by matching the things close to their heart – organic viticulture, varietal and Valley – they can make an honest expression of Chile’s vibrant, fruit-driven wines,” says Boutinot’s South America Buyer Alex Gittins.
Emiliana Natura Viognier 2015, Valle Central 13%
RRP £8.75, Oddbins
The 100% Viognier grapes for this wine have been selected from the cooler climate areas of the Valle Central – one of the country’s largest wine regions which, with a Mediterranean climate and marked difference between nocturnal and diurnal temperatures gives fresh, aromatic Viognier fruit.
Grapes were selected from vineyards planted on mainly alluvial soils with good drainage. After fermentation, the wine was aged for four months – 85% in stainless steel tanks and 15% in French oak. The result is a white that is golden yellow in colour, with a nose that gives fruity aromas of apricot and papaya, with honey and floral notes. The palate is refreshing with good concentration and balance – a brilliant wine to match with grilled fish in a cream sauce, and even some desserts.
Emiliana Natura Carménère 2015, Colchagua Valley 14%
RRP £8.75, Oddbins
The 100% Carménère grapes for this red have been sourced from the Colchagua Valley which, with temperatures averaging at 22oC and relatively low rainfall, has made a name for itself as a top red wine region in Chile.
Grapes were selected from vineyards on moderate to deep alluvial soils with a silt-loam texture and good drainage. After fermentation, 20% of the wine was aged for six months in French oak to give extra depth to the finished wine. With an intensely fruity nose, this is a smooth, ripe and velvety wine which is perfect with red meats and winter stews, as well as pasta dishes and ripe cheeses.
