Celebrating a 70th birthday is a great milestone.  2024 sees Araldica become a septuagenarian and to honour this achievement, celebrations took place at their cellars over the summer.

The Manera family have been at the heart of Araldica since just after its foundation in 1954 and they led celebrations at the winery which spanned a whole weekend this summer.  Events centred around sharing stories of the past and looking to the future. The celebrations started with a photography exhibition in the cellar, detailing the history of the winery and the Co-operative. A real trip down memory lane for many members and a fitting way to reflect on their remarkable journey to date.

The focus of the celebrations was on sustainability and communicating its growing importance to all the members of the co-operative. An inspiring conference entitled “The Value of Time”  touched on various challenges from the climate crisis, global migration, innovation in viticulture and renewing their commitment to a sustainable future, both on an environmental and social level. Claudio Manera, company director, opened the proceedings by highlighting the significance of the 70 year milestone, noting the importance of remembering the past, discussing the present, and imagining the future.

There were several other speakers at the conference including Luca Meracalli, renowned climatologist, who spoke about the need to prepare for climate change being crucial; also Ricardo Cotarella, President of Assoenologi Italy. He called for a renewed focus on the social and cultural importance of wine cooperatives, emphasizing their role in preserving tradition while embracing modern advancements. He encouraged the industry to remain optimistic and adaptable, ensuring that wine continues to be a vital and cherished part of human culture.

Anniversary celebrations could not be complete without a huge dinner prepared by local chefs which was followed by a concert featuring local musicians and Italian singer and songwriter Zucchero. Following the previous night’s celebrations, a vineyard ramble was organized the next day through the new Cascinone paths, highlighting the biodiversity in the vineyards. The event featured a tasting of the Avamposti range, which was an ideal choice to mark the celebrations. The Avamposti meaning ‘outpost’, signifying a different approach and aptly pointing to the future of Araldica.

Araldica aims to enhance quality and commit to a sustainable future. They have achieved ISO 14001, signifying their dedication to environmental management, including water and waste management, and electricity use. A Carbon Footprint assessment led to strategies for reducing their impact, such as reducing bottle glass weight by 15%. Additionally, they have implemented a ‘no chemical weeding’ policy in their vineyards and proudly display the ‘No Herbicides’ logo on their bottles.

Araldica remain environmental custodians and will continue to lead the way in sustainability. We are proud of their commitment and our partnership. Their clear vision and drive have allowed us to offer diverse, high-quality, excellent value wines.

Congratulations to Araldica on 70 extraordinary and innovative years—here’s to the next 70.
